Lychees and mangoes flavor this quaint country home with a Pacific Northwest cabin feel to it in Haiku, Maui. All of this is embodied in the Stice Team’s newest listing (MLS# 364008). 485 Ulumalu Rd. is a 3 bed/2 bath home in immaculate condition on a gently sloping half acre that is just the right […]
Having lived in Haiku and owned property for the past 37 years, I really appreciate the work it takes to grow a fruit tree that will eventually produce tasty treats one day. This makes all the hours of digging, weeding, fertilizing, etc all worth it. When you are out cutting the lawn or working in the orchard on a warm day, you just stop by the orange, tangerine, or banana tree and grab a sumptuous tropical fruit.
4323 Opana Place (MLS# 363326) priced very competitively at $875,000
4323 Opana Place in Haiku was built in 1991 by a local contractor as the first home in this small subdivision located about 100 yards above the Hana Hwy. This fully fenced property has a large orchard, full of producing fruit trees. There are ocean views filtered by the trees and warm trade-winds blowing year-round; you have an ideal setting to “grow your own” and live in paradise at the same time.
With prices climbing steadily since 2011, this house is priced very competitively in the Haiku market. With recent vacant land sales for 2-acre lots approaching $500,000, this home represents a value that you could not duplicate by purchasing a vacant lot and building new. The best part is you can just move in right now, with no major repairs required to do so.
With 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and a large, open living area on the main floor, you may either access from the street level, directly in the front door, and have the advantage of single floor living, or you can enter from the garage below and have a 3rd half bath for when you are working in the yard, or for future expansion.
A full two acres and plenty of room to build an additional structure or just to enjoy the yard
If you require more living area, the owner has full plans ready to go to add over 1,000 sq.ft. of living area in the current, unfinished basement area of the house. All of the plumbing and electrical is in place and ready to go. This home has full services, county water meter, electricity, high speed internet, trash pickup, and is ready to move in to. An additional bonus is that you can legally add another 1,000 sq.ft. cottage to the property if you need an additional structure.

Looking for seven acres along a stream, almost oceanfront, in Haiku, Maui? If so, try 715 Honokala Rd. on for size.
The blue outline shows the approximate property boundaries from a property survey overlay
This is a fantastic value at $550,000. If you are looking for a spot larger than the standard two acre lots you find on Maui at about the same price, you may want to consider this property (MLS# 361900). Located 1.5 miles off the Hana Highway in Haiku, Huelo, Maui, you have great roadway access and are a short hop to the civilized world.
There are several different sites for building with ocean views. This property has many options as it has a stream that crosses through that runs almost all the time. If you want to do some agriculture, there are several flat areas, currently in cow pasture, that should offer great productivity for your gardens and orchards.
About 3 of the acres follow along the stream and have huge old trees along both sides. There are some huge mango trees that could be 100 years old and a few tall old coconut trees too. With the varied topography, you have the option to create multiple sites for structures and gardens.
The property is being sold with a deeded easement over the adjacent 27 acres to a site that borders the oceanfront state owned property. A trail can be created from this spot to directly access the small bay below, which has great fishing and diving, and occasionally a very private surf break.
This area does not have any utilities available, so you will be a dedicated off the grid owner if you take the challenge. All nearby owners have water catchment tanks because the annual rainfall is around 70 inches. Power is generated by photovoltaic and wind systems. Internet is via satellite link.
If you don’t want utility bills, and you want to eat what you grow, take a careful look at this sustainable property. Unspoiled by paved roads, street lights, and utility poles, you only have the blue Pacific, Haleakala Volcano, and the Milky Way in your view.

10 acres in Haiku offered by the Stice Team for $799,000 (MLS# 362066)
If you are looking for a property on the North Shore of Maui that feels like you are oceanfront, with a beautiful building site, graded and ready to build, with a Maui county water meter installed, and electricity at the site, this is your spot, 112 Kahiapo Place.
These 10 acres offer a huge variety of topography with the prime two building sites at the top of the lot, looking directly down the valley to Puniawa Bay in Haiku, which is about 1/2 mile from world famous Peahi Bay, known as Jaws.
Zoning allows two living structures, so you can build a large main home and a separate “farm accessory dwelling” of 1,000 sq. ft. of living area. Zoning still allows multiple farm accessory structures, such as barns, greenhouses, packing sheds, and well houses.
There is about a 200 foot vertical drop in to the valley below with a 4-wheel drive access road that leads down to a production vegetable farm that is currently being cultivated by the present owner.
Included also are 15 producing lychee trees, rollinia trees, banana, java plum, and large mature old mango trees along the stream. Most of the cultivable land lies on both sides of the stream along the valley floor and is rich alluvial soil deposited over the eons by periodic flooding. This land has been cleared and is ready to plant.
Most similar properties like this lie much further to the East, with difficult access or longer travel time from Central Maui. This property is located 6 minutes to Haiku Town Center, 8 minutes to Hookipa Beach Park, and 25 minutes to Kahului airport. “So near, yet faraway” is truly an accurate description of this beautiful property. You feel like you are in Hana, yet you have all the convenience of being 6 minutes from the grocery store, restaurants, and the health club.
