I have been into many units at Honua Kai and I can honestly say that Konea #225 just has the “it factor” right when you walk in the door. Upon entering, you are greeted with an open and wide living area; I would say that the living area feels a good 5ft. wider than just about all other 2 bedroom units at Honua Kai.
There is a galley-style kitchen with a large amount of counter space that allows meal preparation oriented directly towards the view. Your eyes are immediately drawn outwards to the inviting and stunning outdoor beauty. What I love most about this particular unit is that everything is oriented directly towards the view and you don’t have to be out on the lanai to experience this like the majority of other units at Honua Kai in this price bracket do require.
The living room at Konea #225 is very comfortable for entertaining, relaxing, and because there is more room – pulling out the queen sized bed in the sleeper sofa is just that much more satisfying. The sellers of the property have recently installed a high quality and very soft carpet that further enhances the overall enjoyment of this great space.
Huge Private Lanai Area
The very spacious and private covered lanai at Konea #225 measures 475 sq.ft. of effective additional exterior living area, but even better, you don’t pay HOA fees on this area, just the 1,235 sq.ft. of interior living area. From this lanai you get great views of the ocean, palm trees, the inner courtyard resort area, and the firepit lounge area directly below.

The two bedroom units on the interior courtyard at Honua Kai are the most valuable two bedroom assets (with the exception of the fee oceanfront two bedroom units) and also command the highest rental rates. They are the most protected from the elements and many would argue the most superior unobstructed view planes.

What makes the location of Konea #225 especially rare is that there are only 2 configurations and locations like this in the entire 600+ unit resort that is Honua Kai. Both towers at Honua Kai are like large U-shaped buildings facing the ocean.
Konea #225 and Konea #229 (right next door but protected by a large privacy wall) are the only two bedrooms in the entire 25 and 29 stacks – all other floors above them are all 3 bedrooms, so you enjoy many of the same benefits of the very desirable 3 bedroom D-1 floor plans minus the extra $500k+ in investment costs.

Konea is the northern and slightly newer tower at Honua Kai; many feel that it is a bit more quiet than its lively counterpart in Hokulani namely because the pool area in the Konea courtyard is the adult pool. Both Hokulani and Konea area great – it’s really just a matter of personal preference.
There has been a lot of recent publicity about the construction currently taking place at the adjoining Starwood Ocean Villas which is on the South (Lahaina side) of the exterior of the Hokulani building, Konea #225 is not affected by this construction at all. Konea #225 is a short walk to the center and main elevator at Honua Kai, so it is convenient in that respect.
Through several feet of concrete, the property also sits directly above the fairly recently opened Ho’ola Spa and the soon-to-be new grocery/convenience store which directly abuts the spa. Our homeowner’s association recently purchased this commercial space last year and they are finalizing lease arrangements. I am pleased as I believe that this will be another fantastic amenity as well as a consistent source of lease income for our association of owners.
Konea #225 Has Ocean Views From Both Master Suites
Having direct ocean views from both of the master bedrooms (the southern or far left bedroom when looking at the ocean ensuite) is a major point of distinction for a two bedroom unit at Honua Kai as this is quite rare and is generally an attribute of the higher priced three bedroom properties. Both bedrooms are spacious and one of the king beds can be split into twin beds for that extra touch of flexibility when needed.

Fully Furnished Vacation Rental w/ Great Income
Konea #225 is being sold fully furnished and is completely equipped as an excellent home away from home, and represents strong value propositions as an investment property – Honua Kai properties as a whole have some of the highest gross income figures relative to their asset value for any real estate in the entire state of Hawaii. “We had a great time. The condo lives up to the pictures. The owner and the property management company are great and very responsive. We had all the amenities that we needed (coffee, shampoo, toilet paper, towels, paper towels, etc.) The rooms are big and the main living room is very roomy. We had 4 adults and 1 child. They provided brand new beach chairs and umbrellas along with beach toys and ice chests.
The outdoor space is amazing. In the afternoon you can get your right from your room :). It is a great place to people watch. When I booked it I was concerned that it might be noisy due to the location. It was not noisy at all. You could, however, hear the waves pounding the beach, which was nice. We left the doors to the lanai open as much as possible.
It is easy to access from the garage and they even provided a dolly to move your groceries. We stopped at Costco next to the airport and picked up what we needed, and there is a grocery store across the street that is open until 2 am for the rest of your items.
The resort is very nice and very upscale. The pool areas were nice, we never had to fight for a chair. The beach area is nice. The waves are fairly strong and I think that snorkeling is better a little farther up the beach. There is a boardwalk you can walk all the way up to the whalers village, but I think it is probably about 1 mile. We saw a ton of whales and you can see turtles in the surf.
If you stay in this property, some of the units on the other building look over the construction that is going on next door, so you would not want to be on that side and see a crane:). We would sit in the evening and watch the sunset as they lit the tiki torches. I would stay here again in a minute. It is a very upscale, clean, and beautiful resort.”
Incredible Location on the World’s Best Island of Maui

Lower HOA Fees/Newer Construction
At $1.43/sq.ft. of living area, Honua Kai has the lowest HOA fees of any comparable resort buildings in Ka’anapali. Most of this has to do with the fact that Honua Kai is a much newer building (Hokulani was completed in 2008 and Konea in 2009); as well as the setback from the ocean is more substantial than other resorts.
The comparable buildings are anywhere from 20-40 years older than Honua Kai. Clearly, there are tradeoffs with a larger setback, but when you consider the shoreline erosion issues that other buildings in West Maui are experiencing – this does present a substantial benefit.
Honua Kai is a 4 Diamond rated resort, was recently named the #3 resort in Maui by US News and World Reports, and is part of the exclusive Gold Club by Conde Nast. It is near the top for just about all travel websites for the West Maui region. The association is continuously striving for the immaculate upkeep of the property and a world-class experience for all to enjoy.
The Konea lobby is understated contemporary Hawaiian elegance, which leads out to the aforementioned firebowl lounging area. The new convenience store, spa, and gym are all to the left of this lobby when facing the ocean.
Honua Kai sits on 38 acres and has many pools for all ages, hot tubs, and water slides for all to enjoy. There is a gym in the Konea Tower, which is in the process of being expanded by an additional 500 sq.ft.
Dukes Beach House is a great place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In the event that you would like to grill some steaks or cook in your unit, Times Supermarket is a short walk right across the street from Honua Kai. The Aina gourmet market in Hokulani is a nice place to pick up a sandwich or an espresso.
Owners experience resort hotel services including underground parking and complimentary valet parking for owners, central check-in reception, full service concierge, bell service, and every other day daily housekeeping (if staying in the front desk program). There are also storage areas for SUP boards and kayaks in the underground parking areas so owners can leave their water toys.
