Pe'ahi Farms Weather Trends

One of the first things to consider when purchasing on Maui is whether or not the climate suits your needs. Maui offers roughly 23 microclimates where weather can differ on either side of a neighborhood. The unique thing about Maui's North Shore is the 2,500 miles of open ocean where fresh wind, rain, and waves develop. If constant sun, watering your yard and staying indoors with the air conditioning makes you stale, maybe getting out of the city lights and seeing the stars at Pe'ahi Farms might rouse your soul.

THE ELEMENTS AT THEIR FINEST

WIND

Pe'ahi Farms sits on Maui's most Northern point, Opana Point. The average wind speed for the coastline in this particular part of Haiku is around between 14-22 mph depending on what maps you look at. Many people ask about the overall exposure to wind without thinking of the positives. The first upside to a steady breeze is keeping your home aired out. Living on an island in the middle of the Pacific can create a pleasantly humid environment, if you don't keep a nice cross breeze through your home you can end up with a muggy atmosphere inside your home. I live right up the road from Pe'ahi Farms and some windows in my house have never been closed. Secondly, the wind pushes VOG (volcanic fog) away from Pe'ahi Farms. With the eruptions on the Big Island, VOG has become a serious consideration for purchasers, Haiku is one or the best if not the best area on Maui for staying away from VOG.

RAIN/SUN

How does Haiku stay so Green? Rain and sun might have something to do with it. The most common pattern on the North Shore is rain at night and sunshine during the day. According to the University of Hawaii Rainfall Atlas, Pe'ahi Farms receives 55 inches of rain annually, that is the perfect amount to keep your plants and garden thriving. Citrus, fruit trees, vegetables and basically anything you want to grow that doesn't require a frost, love Haiku's sun to rain ratio. With an average temperature of 75 degrees and an average of 276 days a year of sun, it's safe to say Pe'ahi Farms is meant to be just that, a Farm.

WAVES

At this point, Pe'ahi is one the most recognized waves in the world, and for good reason. In the winter months, Pe'ahi or "Jaws" produces waves of mammoth proportion, some sets peaking at 50+ feet.

The actual break is about 1/4 mile west of Pea'hi Farms, you can hear the waves and the boulders rolling from the neighborhood. Another great watersports mecca is about 10 minutes down the road at Ho'okipa Beach Park. Not only does Ho'okipa have great waves and clear water, but the beach itself is pristine.

I personally love living with the land and letting nature be as it should. Pe'ahi Farms represents what it means to live on Maui's North Shore, being part of a community while enjoying what Maui's landscape has to offer. From enjoying the multitude of water sports to star gazing, the North Shore of Maui is truly a new experience every day. Come and see why the weather at Pe'ahi Farms might be exactly what you need.
